Lucas was a lawyer and a politician who served in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate, and was Senate Majority Leader, 1948-1950. Morse served four consecutive terms in the United States Senate, beginning as a Republican in 1945, changing to Independent in 1952, and joining the Democratic Party in 1955.
