- Rogers Family Collection
The Rogers Family Collection contains images of Rogers family members looking at items from their family collection. The Rogers family are descended from Colonel Matthew Rogers, the owner of the general store in Athens, Illinois, where Abraham Lincoln visited and conducted business several times during his life in Illinois.
Matthew Rogers was a colonel during the War of 1812 with the 54th New York Infantry. He moved and settled near modern day Athens, Illinois, in 1821. He served as postmaster of Rogers, Illinois, until 1832 when he constructed a general store and moved the post office to Athens, Illinois.
The general store building was converted into the Abraham Lincoln Ling Nine Museum.
