Vicksburg Mississippi

August 18th 1864

To his Excelency the Governor of the State of Illinois

I have the honor to address you and respectfully transmit a short sketch of my history while in the United States Service I enlisted in Co. A. 79th Ills. Vol. July 19th. 1862 and was in the Battle of Murphreysborough Tennisee December 28th & 29th 1862 and was transfered to Company K. 1st Infty. Regt. Miss. Marriner Brigade April 4th 1863 and was engaged in the Siege of Vicksburg untill the surender I have been an detached hear as acting first Sergeant since April 18th. 1864. I would refer you to Lt. Col. Theadore West 135th Ills. Vol. for further particulars
