Message from His Excellency General Prayut Chan-o-cha (Ret.)
Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand
On the 150th Anniversary of the Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln
On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand, I am honoured and privileged to join the American people and those around the world, to honour the legacy of one of the United States' greatest Presidents, Abraham Lincoln.
President Lincoln strived to unify his nation with the firm conviction that "a house divided cannot stand." This enduring legacy continues to guide the destiny of many countries, including Thailand's, as we are presently committed to our own reconciliation process that seeks to bring together all Thai people to build a stronger and sustainable democracy.
President Lincoln's devotion to equality and justice continues to inspire successive generations of leaders and citizens. Moreover, his love for his people and dedication to his country should be an example for each and every one of us. Indeed, his unwavering commitment, courage, and sacrifice to bring about peace for his nation and prosperity for his people, continues to inspire not only the United States of America, but the entire world.
As we commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the passing of President Lincoln this year, let us be inspired by his achievements for humanity, and carry on his legacy for our future generations.
