Der Sir yours in recd.

I will be at Springfield on Monday Washburn was here yesterday. I did not See him. Hanna of our town is for Washburn and he will try to influence Funk & Noble. I think you will find Funk at Cheney Home tomorrow he will require prompt attention I think Dubois is the Man to attend to Funk---put the right of this contest upon the fact that the people of the election did declose for you and that in voting loyal men supposed they ware voting to Secure your election to the Senate = I understand that Funk & Noble admit that the people of this county are for you still I think the pressure will be strong upon them for Washburn you know---in this town we Love one very great Man holding a high position in the Judiciary of the United States &


who knows how carry out his wishes through others and without really knowing I suppose from the fact that W. H Hanna is against you that the opposition to you emenates from this great man hence the reason for close and constant attention to Funk. Please regard this letter as Confidential
