Louisville Ky Jany 25th 65 To His Excellency Richard Yates Governor State of Illinois By virtue of an order which your Excellency was kind enough to issue to Col A. C. Fuller Adjt Genl State of Ill directing him to commission me Major of the Veteran Battallion of the 14th and 15th Ill Infty, I have been acting in that capacity, as [commandant?] of The 1st Battn 2nd Brig, Provisional Division, Army Tenn and not have as yet received my commission, I feel placed in a somewhat delicate position; having been ordered to rejoin my command with Genl Sherman, it will be a source of mortification to me, if my commission as Maj is not to be issued May I not then, Governor, receive a favorable reply from you? If such is your pleasure please direct to Vet Battn 14th and 15th Ill
