Charlesworth Powel, Adjutant of the 14th Illinois Infantry, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was a clerk in Taylorville, Christian County, Illinois.

Martin W. Mann enlisted on April 17, 1861 in the 12th Illinois Infantry, Company B. He joined in Mendota and fought at the battles of Fort Donelson, Shiloh, and Cornith. Born in 1830, he emigrated to the U. S. in 1848.

Leonard Fulton Ross was Colonel in the 17th Illinois Infantry. He was in charge of the Yazoo Pass Expedition and guarded Vicksburg from the north. Ross was from Lewistown, Fulton County, Illinois.
