"Triumphal March of General Grant's Grand Army into Vicksburg, July 4th, 1863," written by Robert M. Woodruff, 30th Illinois Infantry, Company H. Woodruff, a painter from Sangamon County, was killed by guerillas on February 28, 1865 in South Carolina. He had reenlisted as a veteran one year before Vicksburg, Mississippi. His lyrics were sung to the tune of Yankee Doodle: "Twas not long since that General Grant, For the sake of recreation, Did take his army on a jaunt, To march through all creation."

 

Broadside: "Go! Grant, Go!." These lyrics were sung to the tune of "Old Black Joe."
