This "McClernand Guards" broadside of the 14th Illinois Cavalry, Company A, lists three immigrant soldiers. Swan Oleson (single) and Charles Errick (married), were both originally from Sweden. Oleson and Errick, both farmers, enlisted from Knox County. Oleson died in prison at Andersonville, Georgia, but Errick, although disabled, survived the war. William Barfoot, a married farmer, was originally from England. Barfoot was living in Peoria when he enlisted at 41 years of age in 1862. He was discharged for disability in 1864.
