Prison at Andersonville
Two sketches by Frederick Eugene Ransom depicting the starvation and death at Andersonville Prison, Georgia. Ransom served in the 11th Illinois Infantry, Company E.
Document dated March 4, 1868 that accompanied $56.50 sent to the mother of Cyrus W. Randall, 124th Illinois Infantry, Company E. Randall was taken prisoner on February 29, 1864 and died at Andersonville on October 12 of that year. The payment arrived three and a half years after his death for "un-used rations." $5.50 was deducted from the payment to his mother for "incidental expenses "such as postage etc."
